Gooche and andrew both have given up front wheel drive and have taken up the option to drive the rear wheel drive subaru and the rear wheel drive toyota mr2 both cars are being developed by rally world watch this space as both fo these drivers could win an event later this year

first delado win for ricey in the 1.4 corsa

alex very close to ricey at the end less than 5 seconds in it robin the dust monster came in 3rd overall to go with his second in class the week before at the coracle stages in wales

ROUND 3 started out in blazing sun shine with a start grid of 14 drivers as the day progressed it was aparant that the new track was taking its toll of drivers with only 6 cars getting to the finnish 5 of which are built and preped at rally world good work done by these guys

Another great day the weather was fantastic and the racing even better the class Aboys were very close as per normal with cameron and ricey fighting it out at the front a few small mistakes by pedro cost him the first place . the same two drivers got to the final of the shoot out ricey and cameron the extra commitment from the sunbeam driver saw him just pip ricey to the win
Class B was again very close with alex and darran swapping tenths of a second all day the pressure mounting both drivers had nothing between them and then a moment of brain fade from darran let alex through to take his first overall delado win . Again the shoot out saw alex v darran with darran first on the stage the number 1 driver gave it all he had got and a little bit more then came alex we dont think the escort had any thing left as alex took the shoot out by 1 tenth of a second this is what delado is all about

alex and darran will be in the rally world suzuki swift while robin will be out for the first time in his focus which now sports a new engine from tommy field and new gear ratios all put together by rally world robin tested friday and was over the moon while cameron will be co driven by his farther robert in his sunbeam first outing behind the wheel for cam its a great turn out from our small club let have a few more for next year

Round 6 saw the introduction of the shoot out all competitors had the chance to do one stage as quick as possible the 4 fastest cars going through to the semi finals the next two quickest to fight it out in the final . arriving at the first final saw roy taking on alex . with some fantastic driving all wheels off the ground at one point alex piped roy to the first shoot out final by .4 of a second only

Round 6 saw some changes to the normal format with a smaller entry than normal gave us scope to run 8 stages . with changes to the stage which made it longer faster and the technical area more difficult it was a good challenge for all the drivers

drive of the day has to go to keith who finished 1st in class and with no penalty points it just show that with out gooche teaching him he is quite good the battle at the front was between darran and alex again with alex winning most of the stages in the day darran was having to play catch up one mistake from alex let darran through into the lead and there was no looking back from this point
cant wait for the next round

round 2 got under way with good weather again. and with a full entry for the event . a new fast track lay for round 2 this gave all the indications that the times were to be very close and this was so . with some of the best driving of the season only a few seconds separated the top 4 cars at one time and one of 6 cars could have been in the top spot

darran held his nerve to pip alex to the first spot darran winning round 2

alex with his new engine set up and revised rear suspension set the pace on stage one going into an early lead alex holding the top spot up to the lunch break after lunch the pressure mounted alex clipped a cone and that let darran through into the lead

roy gave it all he had got and at times a bit more with the corsa up on two wheels at time roy pushed hard and came in 3 rd overall

gooche driving the subaru with the new suspension set up set some good time he says the car has now the potential to win not too sure about the driver but i am sure he will get there

tom and sam had been hard at it getting the bm back to full fitness so they tell me but i know craig had to help as well good old dad

nice to see harry potter back with all its wheels on

also nice to see bish back after a couple of absences the herald with its new engine gave the crowds good entertainment all day round 3 will be the 25th october

ROUND 7 the final round of the 2008/09 championship with only one of the classes won there was plenty to go for with darren and alex out in front on the overall leader board darren only had to score one point this looked very unlikely after the first run when his steering rack sheered from the front x member this put alex in the driving seat if he couls win the class then he was delado 2009 champion . with alex and darren being team mates from the first days of delado alex got to work with darren with a little advice from baz the rack was attached with ratchet straps darren got to the finish alex won the class and darren finished a worthy 2009 champion this goes to show what delado rally club is all about

on the day robin had another outstanding drive to finish 1st overall at times he was pushed very hard by new member james one of the clacton mafia james lead the event right up to the final 2 stages where robin with the extra power and driving his socks off just overhauled james to take the victory

sam what no penalty points sam also driving like he had stole the car pushed very hard at times but just did not have enough at the end to beat robin and james

super smooth james comes in second to robin

james says the car cost him 50 quid and has a standard engine it must all be down to the driver

this young man BEN just wants to be famous he cant wait till he is 12 so he can drive with dad

Metropolitan Police Motor Club Rally Team Wins in Belgium

The 54th running of the Rally International organised by the Auto-Moto Club de la Police Liegeoise saw Ian James and Bob Stokoe in their Grp A M3 BMW win their class as the BMW proved both fast and reliable on the day. The team were in a strong class with two other M3’s driven by local drivers and a number of Ford Escorts. Ian and Bob were the sole car entry from the Federation of British Police Motor Clubs. This was Ian’s fourteenth appearance for this FIA European Police rally; he can now be counted as a local as his knowledge of the stages is as good as the Belgians.

As with any international rally the preparation of the car is of paramount importance and over the winter the team of Craig Martin and Mark Chard from Dick Lovett BMW had worked hard to lose more weight off the car. Final preparations saw the car visit Baz Cannon of RPM PERFORMANCE / RALLY WORLD in Essex for a final check over and service.

The Federation team met at Dover and travelled down to Liege arriving at 5pm on Tuesday afternoon. Our accommodation had been found by our Chef de Equipe Paul Monk, and 16 team members would be staying in a house close to the stages of the rally.

Wednesday started sunny and we collected the road book from the Royal Motor Union Liege, a famous motor club which used to organise the Liege-Rome-Liege rallies in the sixties. Fortunately the stages were the same as in 2007, but with a few amendments so we had most of the notes already. The stages were fast and flowing which suited the BMW very well, and with a top speed of over 125mph in places. Our main competition came from a Subaru World rally Car (WRC) S10, two A8 Mitsubishi Evo 1X, and a Grp N Lancer Evo 1X of our old friend Franco Arlotti and Alain Duchene from the Motor Club de Liegoise. Last year we beat them by 3 seconds.

Scrutineering is always a nervous time, have we ticked all the boxes? and done everything the FIA wants to be done to the car to make it safe. Next year all cars will need to be fitted with the Hans device, this consists of a harness fitted to the shoulders of the driver and navigator securing wires are then connected to the crash helmet. This apparatus is seen regularly in motor racing and is now being introduced for international rallies for 2010.The device successfully prevents whip lash injuries to the neck in the event of a high speed impact. The cost for both driver and navigator could be as much as £2000! The car and all our equipment passed and we looked forward to a great day’s rallying on Saturday.

Up at 6am for a quick breakfast, although I do not tend to eat very much on the morning of the rally, just a coffee and a small bowl of cereal and that will do me until lunchtime. Into the car and ready for the off, much cranking of the engine and it fails to fire up, a bit of a panic now as we have to be at the start in 45 minutes. Mark and Craig have appeared on hearing our predicament, and after a bit easy start and WD 40 the car bursts into life. We just hope we have no repetition on the rally. A quick blast down the motorway and into Liege for the start. We manage to slot into our place which had been left car by 17 another of the BMWs. Although we were competing against each other for the class award we had been entered as a BMW team so we look after each other as well as being fiercely competitive on the stages. Half an hour for a chat with old friends and then we are off to the start of the first of 16 special stages to be tackled during the day. The weather was warming up and it looked good for the BMWs which like the dry roads as opposed to the wet ones. Franco in his Mitsubishi on the other hand was praying for a bit of rain, but I am afraid he was going to be out of luck.

With engine now warmed up it started first time and we were away from the start following one of the other M3’s at number 15. Into service for a quick check before we were off to the first stage out of a small village called Ferriere, a regroup in the village square surrounded by small bars and an hotel.

The first stage is always tricky as there are inevitably damp roads under the trees and caution is always advisable so as not to throw away the event on the first stage. The fast boys in the WRC cars and 4x4 finished the stage in 5m 11 seconds, Bob and I managed 5m 32. and more pleasing we were 3 seconds up on our rival Franco, and ahead of the other 2 BMWs in the class.

The next stage was a short 2 minute blast through the countryside, a short blast of 500 metres to a tight left hand hairpin, 300 metres to a long right hand bend, and then flat out down hill through sweeping bends in 6th gear, braking heavily for the narrowing of the road and a quick left and right into a village, a second gear right hand bend at the monument of the Virgin Mary and Baby Jesus, and blast up hill to finish on a slippery tight left hander, all done in 1m 55. Four seconds faster than Franco we now had 7 seconds on him after just 2 stages.

The next stage was the fastest of the rally the WRC cars were averaging over 70 mph and reaching over 125 mph on the flowing “A” roads, this was a great stage for the BMW, and we were going to make this stage count and put more time between ourselves and Franco and the M3s. We blasted through the stage at over 117km/H and took another 3 seconds from Franco. He was wondering what he was going to have to do to come to terms with the M3.

By the time we had had lunch and started the second loop we were 25 seconds ahead of Franco and one of the M3s had departed with what looked like lack of fuel or fuel pressure. We were leading the class and third overall. All looked good for a podium place and a class win.

At the next regroup we went to go out of the time control and the engine would not fire up, a bit of “drama” as Baz would say. We pushed the car through the time control and collected our time, and then beside the road started to tweek all those leads under the bonnet which Craig and Mark had adjusted in the morning, as luck has it the car fired into life, and to this day I do not know why it failed to fire up, but we will change much of the electrical bits before the next rally. It was then a blast to the next start time control, we had lost a few minutes, but we arrived just as 18 was about to go in, so we nipped in just on our minute. I did not want to give Franco any glimmer of hope that he could catch us, 10 seconds for 1 minute lateness would have given him the appetite for a battle, but as it was I think he had succumbed to second best by this time in the afternoon. We raised the bar higher with an average speed of over 120km/H on stage 4 again beating Franco by 8 seconds.

We left our final service with a cushion over 4th place Franco Arlotti of 35 seconds, all we had to do was keep it on the road and hope that there were no more dramas. Into the regroup before the start of the final 4 stages. Our minute came up and I went to start the engine, the starter motor was spinning but not engaging the fly wheel! A bit of pushing in gear saw the starter motor finally engage with the fly wheel and we were off on the last loop of the rally. At this point I decided it would be wise not to stop the engine on this final run. Fortunately there were no hold ups and the rally ran to time so I was able to keep the car ticking over until we reached the finish. The last 4 stages were still driven hard, as we were unsure as to whether we would receive a 10 second penalty for booking in late earlier in the event. We had also changed to a medium compound tyre from the soft compound that we had started the event as the temperatures now reached the mid twenties, however the stages were not really long enough to get the heat into the new tyres and consequently we dropped time to Franco on the last stages, but we had enough of a cushion to still beat him at the end of the event by 25 seconds.

All the team got home safely with no major incidents, the motorcyclists from the FBMPC finishing 4th, 5th and 9th in the top ten which was a great achievement. Bob and I finished yet again 3rd overall and winning the Class. A great week well organised as usual by Paul Monk and Robin Tutchings from the Metropolitan Police Motor Club. Thanks also go to the service crew of Craig and Mark for keeping us in the rally, and to the Metropolitan Police Athletic Association which supports the team on this prestigious European event.

Rally First

Rally First is a new class introduced by the BTRDA for their Forest Rally Championship in 2008. The cars are up to 1400 c.c., with standard engine and gearbox. Obviously they must have the usual stage-rally safety mods (roll-cage, extinguisher, cut-off switch etc.) and can have uprated suspension, but otherwise have to be kept pretty standard. This means that the preparation and maintenance costs of the car are kept low and the performance of the various cars in the class is pretty equal. Also the cars are really reliable – only 2 retirements in the whole class due to car problems during 2008.

The class runs with the other 1400 c.c. cars at the front of the field, which usually means the stages are super-smooth. Also there’s a £50 discount on all entry fees for Rally First competitors.

The Championship consists of 7 events, with the best 5 scores counting for points. The events are spread over the whole country, in Forest of Dean, Somerset, Nottinghamshire and 4 different areas of Wales.

Last year there were usually around 10 Rally First crews on each event, but for 2009 that looks like increasing to over 20. At the Rally First Open Day in December 16 new competitors signed up, including 8 new drivers under the age of 23. There is a fantastic variety of cars – Lupo, Corsa, Micra, Sunny, 106, ZR, Nova, Sirion, 205, Astra…….

My co-driver Tim and I compete in our Corsa, which was originally built to do the Lombard Revival Rally in 2006. After 2 successful years in Endurance Rallying we moved to the new Rally First series at the beginning of 2008. The season was fantastically enjoyable, with plenty of good, close competition and a good, friendly atmosphere. We had a trouble-free season and finished 3rd overall in the Championship.

Stage Rallying will never be cheap, but for anyone who wants to compete on a sensible budget Rally First offers excellent competition, where most of the budget can be spent on doing the events, rather than having to spend loads of money on the car.

Delado motor club off to a flying start after a long lay off Sunday saw a very good entry for the first Delado test held at Bradwell air field lots of the old faces and some new some good driving and some not so good but everyone really enjoyed the day out . the most entertaining drive of the day has to go to Craig Schofield the Sebastian Loab look alike the competition at the front was fierce Colin smith in the escort Darren knights in the Mk2 and Alex cannon in his newly built CBC Mk2 rs 2000 gave the spectators some real rally action robin Wilkinson driving after a three year lay off showed he still new where the throttle pedal was

plenty of action from the class A junior Ben Farr and Cameron Buchanan showing lot potential in the juniors

BNI members also had a day out driving a Skoda supplied by RPM, i think they will be back

Darren Knights driving smoothly and correctly all day to secure second place in class and third overall

First job is to fit the new tunnel with involves a lot of fabrication work. The next task is to rebuild the RS2000 engine and Gearbox.

RULES OF DE LADO MOTOR CLUB

1 NAME

1.1 The name of the Club shall be De Lado Motor Club (here after referred to as the “Club”.

1.2 The Clubs address will be De Lado Motor Club, Barn 1, Oak Farm, Loamy Hill Road, Tolleshunt Major, Maldon, Essex, CM9 8LS.

2 OBJECTIVES

2.1 To promote the sport and pastime of motor rallying and to encourage social intercourse between the members of the club

2.2 To hold, arrange motoring events, rallysprints and competitions in accordance with the agreed procedures of the Club.

2.3 To arrange meetings, lectures and social gatherings as required by the members and to offer or contribute towards the provision of prizes and awards and to promote and support an annual awards evening.

2.4 To provide members with information, advice and assistance on matters connected with motoring and motorsport.

2.5 To afford members such benefits and privileges as it may be possible to arrange.

2.6 Members of the Club may, with prior approval of the majority of the other club members, be paid reasonable out of pocket expenses whilst engaged on Club business

3. MEMBERSHIP

3.1 Senior Membership is open to any person who has reached the age of 17. Junior membership is open to any person aged between 12 and 17 years.

3.2 The number of members will be limited to 30 senior and 20 junior members.

3.3 All applicants for membership to the Club shall sign a Form of Application stating their name, address, and agreeing to be bound by the rules of the club. Applicants for junior membership must have their application approved and counter signed by their parent/guardian.

3.4 The annual subscription shall become due on the first day of January each year and shall remain valid until the 31 December of the same year.

3.5 Any member joining after the first day of August in any year shall pay 50 per cent of the annual subscription fee.

3.6 Any member whose subscription has not been paid by 31st July in any year will automatically cease to be a member of the Club.

3.7 No member whose subscription is in arrears shall participate in any activity of the Club or be entitled to receive any benefit from their membership, or be entitled to any award.

3.8 No candidate whose application for membership of the Club has been refused shall re-apply within twelve months of the rejection, nor shall they take part in any Club activities.

4 MEMBERSHIP FEES

4.1 A membership fee (as announced on 1 January each year) shall be charged for all membership categories of the Club.

4.2 Membership fees shall not be refundable.

5 RESIGNATION

5.1 Any member wishing to resign their membership shall inform the Secretary in writing with reasons and date of when the resignation takes effect. Any member not renewing their fee by 31 July shall be deemed to have resigned.
6 EXPULSION OF MEMBERS

6.1 Any Club member who is found to be guilty of conduct that is prejudicial to the Club, its activities, or motorsport in general may be expelled from the club.

6.2 A special meeting will be held that will be open to any member that may wish to attend. The member whose expulsion is under consideration shall be given at least 7 days notice of such a meeting and shall be allowed to offer an explanation of their conduct verbally or in writing. If two thirds of the members present vote for their expulsion they will cease to be a member of the Club.

7 OBSERVANCE AND INTERPRETATION OF RULES

7.1 Every member binds himself or herself to abide by the rules of the Club and also any modifications made thereof.

8 AMENDMENT TO RULES

8.1 Amendments to the rules can only be made if two thirds of the members agree to the changes.

9 BADGES AND TROPHIES

9.1 All perpetual trophies remain the property of the Club and shall be returned upon request or after eleven months which ever is the sooner.

10 LIABILITY

10.1 The liability of the members is limited.

10.2 Every member of the Club undertakes to contribute to the assets of the Club, in the event of the same being wound up while they are a member, or within one year after they cease to be a member, for payment of the debts and liabilities of the Club contracted before they ceased to be a member, and the costs, charges and expenses of winding up, such amount as may be required not exceeding £1

10.3 The club shall not be liable for

A) Any claim made in respect of any costs incurred by a member whilst pursuing the activities of the Club unless previously agreed by a two thirds majority of members

B) Any claims concerning injury, damage or loss, no matter how incurred.

1 vehicles are limited to 2.5 litres normally aspirated
2 transmissions and ratios are free
3 vehicles are limited to two wheel drive only
4 suspension and pick up points free
5 brakes and lines free
6 vehicles must retain front screen laminated
7 fuel tanks must have fire wall if mounted inside the body shell
8 wheels and tyres are free
9 exh systems as quiet as possible please max 84dbs

ALL VEHICLE MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING

1 battery master switch in reach of the driver out side stop cable must be fitted
2 mud flaps fitted to all wheels
3 rally bucket seat in good condition and proper floor fixings
4 a min of a 4 point harness
5 steering wheel may be changed if standard is used air bags to be disabled
6 all vehicle to carry DE LADO door squares
7 competitors must have a crash helmet in good condition and driving overalls again in good condition
this will be left to the scrutineer’s discretion if any doubts check with baz cannon
8 batteries must be securely clamped down if in Copt pit area must be sealed in a protective box
9 toe eyes front and rear must be clearly marked
10 all competitors will retain the same door numbers all season and must run with delado door squares

11 all cars must have at least rear roll cages fitted
12 competitors wishing to take passengers must have a min of 4 point harness fitted and recommended to have proper rally seat fitted
13 car sharing the second number to be displayed on the rear windows the numbers to be proper numbers and they must be displayed on a white back ground
14 all cars competing in the championship must display the new delado rally plates which will be available at the start of the season
15 all cars to have a fire extinguisher fitted

Membership to run from 1st January to 31st December

Memberships will be granted on a first come first served basis

there is a small increase in the membership fees and the entry's for each round this is to try and generate more funds so that we can make the track and facilities better for this year

please pay your memberships by cheque and fill in the form with all your up to date info i.e. phone numbers and e mail please put on the form your last years competition number as well

Hi Everyone

Sorry for the delay in getting this years calendar together but i have been waiting for dates from other championships that our members are taking part in i hope there are not to many clashes.

I will get out all new registration forms and regs at the end of this week.
Remember we need marshals for next year so please try and get new people interested as some of last years marshals will be competing this year.
Hope to be able to give you all the date for the next club night soon.
